Literacy Spotlight: “Caterpillar to Butterfly” – Frances Barry

REVIEW: A wonderful illustration of the process of metamorphosis. The pages expand out into the shape of a large flower, revealing the stages one at a time. Very engaging with the little ones.

Earth’s Day Celebration:
As we were approaching Earth’s Day, we collected recycled materials to place at the art station, to raise awareness on reusing/repurposing materials.
To celebrate Earth’s Day, children and their families in our class sprouted lima beans in wet paper and paper cups and watched them grow! In three weeks, they are ready to be taken home and planted into pots! (As a note: if you’re planning on doing this, keep it indoors if you want to do further observation studies. Animals In our area will come for their snack fairly quickly. Unless, you’re on the topic of food chain, and that is something you’d like your child to observe!)

Raising Cultural Awareness: Studying the continent of South America
Here at Blue Jay Montessori, we strive to help children become global citizens, and in order to do that, we widen their perspective through the Montessori cultural and cosmic studies curriculum

This diorama of South America was generously donated by Monica Advani, my mentor, retired Montessori guide and school director.

Happy Mother’s Day Card Download
HERE is a link to a Mother’s Day card template, designed by Yours Truly, for your little ones to make for the mamas! You’re welcome to download it and print on card stock paper. To make the flower bouquet, I just provided some dried flower arrangement at hand for the children to make their design from. However, they are welcome to gather natural materials from outdoors as well! I provided little squares of tissue paper so children can wrap around the flower to make a mini bouquet. I cut a slit in the “envelope” part of the illustration, so they can insert the mini bouquet into the “envelope”. However, you can just provide some materials for them and see what they can do! Children are so creative.
